At Puna Rangatahi we have a range of regular programmes for our young people to take part in. These range from well-being groups and one-to-one mentoring to opportunities for young people to experience new and exciting hobbies and activities!

Our programmes are tailored to the needs of each intake of rangatahi in each of our districts!

Elevate

Elevate is a programme delivered in schools during lunchtime to Year 7 & 8 girls, and is specially designed to build confidence, teach self-worth, educate on key life skills, offer support and knowledge on how to deal with difficult issues life can bring and provides a safe and friendly environment to left each other up, learn teamwork, grow as individual and have a fun and empowering time with peers.

Kaihanga

Kaihanga is an in-school lunchtime programme, delivered to Year 7 & 8 students who identify as male and offers a range of activities and discussions designed to build confidence and teach self-worth. We offer support, knowledge, and resources on how to deal with difficult issues life canbring, while providing a safe and friendly environment to lift each other up. Rangatahi learn to become their own kaihanga (architect, builder, creator) to make sure their whare tapa whā (four walls of well-being) can withstand the earthquakes of life that can shake our whare

Mentoring

Mentoring is regular one-on-one relationship that supports and encourages young people to grow and develop skills to support them. Mentoring allows young people to have another safe, reliable and trusting adult to support them and to help navigate tricky situations that can arise in a young persons life.

Alexandra and Districts Youth Council

AADYC represent the voice of the rangatahi in our district. The group creates opportunities for rangatahi to have their say about things that affect them, as well as advocating and raising awareness for issues that they are facing.

The group is open to rangatahi aged 13-24 in Alexandra/Clyde, Teviot Valley, Omakau, Poolburn, and Māniatoto.

Definitions Not Applicable (DNA)

DNA is our Rainbow Support /Queer Straight Alliance group for LGBTQIA+ rangatahi aged 13-24. We promise to support our LGBTQ* youth by creating a safe confidential space offering resources, fostering unconditional acceptance, and creating safe spaces for self-expression through leadership, community support, and advocacy.

*We are using LGBTQIA+ as an acronym to include all forms of sex, sexuality and gender diversity. This may include, but is not limited to: intersex, transgender, genderqueer, asexual, fa'afafine, takatapui, lesbian, bisexual, and gay.

School Holiday Programme

We offer events, drop-ins, road trips, and workshops during the school holidays. These are open to rangatahi aged 10-18.

Dicebreakers

Come along to our social board game night. Dicebreakers runs during the Term 1, 2 and 3 on Thursdays from 5.30-7.30pm. We have an awesome set of board games, tabletop escape rooms, and Dungeons & Dragons campaigns!

Alexandra Touch Rugby

During Term 4, we run an eight week Touch Rugby Tournament. This is open to all members of the community across four grades — Year 4-6, Year 7 & 8, Year 9+ Social, and Open Grade.

Registrations for the 2023 season are now closed.

Alexandra Touch Rugby runs on Thursdays from 5-7.30pm at Pioneer Park, Alexandra (weather permitting). Feel free to along and cheer on the players!
